In an interview prior to the AHIP 2024 conference in Las Vegas, MHE spoke with Sachin H. Jain, M.D.,MBA, CEO, SCAN Group and SCAN Health Plan, who acknowledged that while SCAN isn't perfect, they are ahead in simplifying healthcare by recognizing their role in the problem.
Jain shared that SCAN excels in member service with onshore calls by knowledgeable staff and aims to minimize co-pays for essential services.
Their SCAN Classic product has low out-of-pocket costs and no co-pays for primary care, specialists, or hospitalizations, he added.
Despite these efforts, they face challenges, such as a complicated OTC benefits catalog, which they are working to improve.
"It starts with just taking a hard, critical, objective look at ourselves," he said.
Jain also highlighted the industry's tendency to excessively celebrate itself, stressing the need to acknowledge and address shortcomings.
