The arrangement allows Vivio customers to stop overpaying for drugs, the company said.
Vivio Health, a specialty drug management company, has formed a relationship with Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company to access specialty drugs from the online pharmacy. The arrangement came about after Mark Cuban appeared on The Daily Show and mentioned how he was able to find a significantly lower cost generic of droxidopa for a friend. The drug is used to treat lightheadedness and dizziness caused by primary autonomic failure including Parkinson’s and multiple system atrophy.
After that appearance, Vivio’s CEO Pramod John sought out Mark Cuban to help them provide access to this and other specialty drugs for their customers. “We seek to partner with other like-minded innovators to drive meaningful change to an industry that desperately needs it but doesn’t want it,” John said in a press release. “Our relationship with Cost Plus Drugs allows our customers to stop overpaying for drugs, and that’s an important part of our mission.”
Vivio works with large, self-insured companies that pay a fixed, per-member, per-month fee for its services in managing specialty drugs. The company uses data and analytics to help determine the best therapy for each patient. The company’s system, Vivio qClinicals was developed in-house to include clinical trial data of drugs to treat specialty conditions, such as Crohn’s disease, cancer, HIV, multiple sclerosis, hepatitis C and others. Individual patient data from the electronic medical record are collected from the treating physician to match the patient with therapies that would benefit that specific patient.

Cost Plus Drugs, which launched in January 2022, has recently begun to team up with partners to provide enhanced access. Earlier this month, Capital Blue Cross in Harrisburg, Pa., announced that beginning in 2023, members will be able to use their insurance cards when purchasing medications at Cost Plus Drugs. This marks the first time the online pharmacy will accept insurance.
Additionally, last month the PBM Rightway announced that it will integrate with Cost Plus Drugs, the first PBM to do so. Rightway’s pharmacists will identify members, such as those with chronic conditions, who may benefit from the service with Cost Plus Drugs and help them transfer their medications if they choose to do so.
