Grandmother and great-grandmother Donna Osborne had recently finished radiation therapy when she won the prize.
Breast cancer survivor Donna Osborne, 75, of Lancaster County, won $5 million from a Scratch-Off ticket called MONOPOLY Own It All. The check presentation took place at Lottery Headquarters in Middleton, Pa. on June 27. The Speedway gas station where she bought the ticket will also receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Osborne stated in a Pennsylvania Lottery news release that the win was bittersweet because she had just finished radiation treatment for breast cancer. The win was also just in time for her birthday.
“I was at the airport with my daughter. We were on our way to see family in Florida when the flight got delayed. Well, it was delayed so many times, I decided to go home. My daughter stayed and flew to Florida,” said Osborne in the press release. “If I didn’t leave the airport, I would have never bought that ticket!”
Osborne provided transportation for the Amish for decades and said she doesn’t plan to retire any time soon.
“I don’t know what I’d do with myself, I have to keep moving,” she said. “I think I’ll invest some of the prize, sure, but then go to Alaska!”
Osborne said she has been playing lottery games for about 50 years.
MONOPOLY Own It All is a $50 Scratch-Off game that has a top prize of $5 million. Tickets are distributed at random throughout the state and retailers do not know they have a winning ticket until a prize has been claimed.
