The public eye has been squarely focused on Pennsylvania as Governor Edward G. Rendell
In May 2007, the governor signed two executive orders. One established the Office of Health Equity in the Department of Public Health. The second created the Chronic Care Commission, comprised of 37 stakeholders who will work to improve how Pennsylvanians with chronic disease receive care in the future. Pennsylvania hospitals reported more than $1.7 billion for potentially avoidable hospitalizations for patients with chronic conditions (2005).
MEDICAL MALPRACTICE TREND
Since April 2002, 57 newly licensed entities have begun writing medical malpractice policies in Pennsylvania, giving doctors greater choice of insurers.
Providers are required to carry $1 million worth of medical malpractice insurance-$500,000 from a commercial insurance company and $500,000 from Mcare.
